The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is an Indian youth organization that attempts to instill in young individuals character, discipline, leadership, and a sense of service. It is one of the world’s largest uniformed youth groups and is run by the Ministry of Defense.
Aim of NCC
- To develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country.
• To create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth.
• To provide leadership in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation.
• To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the armed, air and navy forces.
NCC units are popular in schools and colleges throughout India. These modules allow students to participate in a variety of activities such as drill, physical training, social service, adventure training, and more. Participation in camps, cultural activities, and community development projects is also available at NCC. Students that join the NCC can gain vital life skills, develop leadership skills, and contribute to the community. The NCC unit (Army Wing) at Akal University was established in the session 2021-22 and the Navy wing started from the session 2023-24. Till now Akal University has 50 cadets (10 SD 40 SW) in the Army Wing and 17 (7 SD 10 SW) cadets in the Navy wing of NCC. Since then, it has participated in numerous social activities, competitions, and awareness initiatives.
Total training period for SD and SW is 3 years with an extension of 1 year permissible on exceptional condition. Every cadet has to undergo service training for a period of at least 4 hours per week during the training year. Every cadet has undergone service training for a minimum period of 75% of total hours during the annual college. Every cadet, who has completed one full year of training and is in his (second year), attends an annual training camp of 9–10 days to fulfill the eligibility for certificate exam.
Certificates And Examination
There are 3 Certificates in NCC. Below describes about it from lower value to higher value:-
- Certificate – A (at school level): It can be written by JD/ JW cadets of NCC, cadets of class 8 & 9. After passing those classes, it can’t be obtained.
- Certificate – B: It can be written by SD / SW cadets of NCC, cadets after class 10 or those studying for +3 (degree). In the second year of training they can appear for the same.
- Certificate – C: It is the most important certificate for NCC cadets. Now it can be written in the 3rd year of training, in the 3rd year of degree course/those having ‘B’ certificate, can write it in the first year after his +2 and in the 1st year of degree by SD / SW cadets only.
These certificates are awarded as grading of (1) ‘A’ grade, (2) ‘B’ grade, (3) ‘C’ grade.

Various Achievements of Akal University Cadets
- Six cadets were promoted to corporal and sergeant.
- Six of our cadets marched in the Republic Day Parade at Bathinda’s Multi Purpose Stadium in front of Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan.
- Our eight cadets marched in the Independence Day Parade at Bathinda’s Multi Purpose Stadium.
- Rashpal Kaur, a cadet, attended a mountaineering camp in Uttarakhand.
- Cadet Bhavandeep Kaur participated in a trekking camp in Pittoragarh.
